Developmental Report
Daron and I got a wonderful surprise today - a 5 month developmental report on Adan. I wasn't aware we would get such a report, so it was really a surprise. Even though he was born premature, it seems he is right on track with where he should be for a 5 month old. Here are the items they tested and he scored a yes on each one.
Visually pursues lost objects
Sits for short periods, leaning forward on hands
Reaches for objects beyond grasp
Rolls from back to stomach and stomach to back
Uses whole hand, chest, and upper abdomen on extended arms
Laughs aloud in play
Vocalizes to self
Shakes rattle deliberately to make sound
Uses variety of verbal sounds
Begins to recognize strangers
Shows anticipation, waves, and raises arms to be picked up
Understands name
Shows fear and anger
He eats 7-8 times a day, about 4-5 oz of formula at a time.
The best part of the report was the comment from the foster mother. She said 'He likes to be held and likes play with the water. He's doing very good.' I know it's just a short sentence, but it gives us some insight into his personality. The only problem is that now I'm even more anxious to get him home. I don't know how I'm going to survive this wait!!!
As far as the DNA auth, we still haven't heard if it's been accepted. I sent an email to our coordinator earlier this week, and apparently someone in the CIS office in Guatemala has decided to be a stickler for some rules that are evidently not well known. The first day they presented our case, the woman working at the office told them the background of the birthmother's picture was too dark. So, they had the picture lightened up and returned the next business day. This time she told them the picture needed to have a white border. Mind you, our agency handles several of these cases every week, so if that had been a requirement before you can bet they would have known about it. In fact they presented two other cases the same day as they first tried ours, and both of those were accepted with the same quality photos and no white border. However, they had a different CIS office worker for those cases. Anyway, they went back a 3rd time, and this time she told them the picture of the baby wasn't good enough. The last I heard they had gone to the foster home to take new pictures and were going to be presenting again on Wednesday. I haven't heard if the office worker finally accepted us, but I probably wouldn't hear until they send out there status change reports, which are usually sent on Mondays or Tuesdays. The only reason we know this much is because I sent an email asking if they knew where it was at in the process. Frustrating!
I'll let you all know as soon as I hear something more.
