Rough Week
Well, its been a rough week, but we're hanging in there. The Chosen Children's House is a wonderful communal house for parent's fostering their children in Antigua. The problem was that the room they had available for us was about 11x9 ft. We couldn't even hardly walk around our luggage that we had no place for. The night that we got there, Adan started vomiting. After a doctor appt the next day, he was diagnosed with Rotavirus, so we knew we couldn't hang out in the community living room and kitchen area without risking getting all the other kids sick. We decided to go back to the Marriott for a few days and try to figure out where to go from there.
As we were getting ready to leave, a gal who is living in Antigua with her husband, their biological son, and the son they are in the process of adopting stopped by. She had heard I had been feeling kind of down and brought us a loaf of some yummy banana bread. She and her husband had been apartment searching the day before because the landlady for their current apartment had decided to raise the rent dramatically around the Christmas holiday. She told us about an apartment that was too small for them (they wanted 3 bedrooms), but she thought might work for us. I walked over there with her, and knew it would work great for us. So, I went back to get Daron and Adan to see if we should take it. He brought his laptop and after determining we will have internet access (at least in the bed and breakfast next door), we decided to put our name on it. We will move in on Monday.
Anyway, after we arrived here at the Marriott, Adan seemed to be getting worse. We were having to give him pedialyte by syringe because he wasn't drinking it on his own. I called our agency staff worker here in Guatemala City, and she called his doctor. He stopped by our hotel on his way home from the office. After looking at his labs, it turns out Adan had Adenovirus, not Rotavirus, although they seem very similar in terms of symptoms. He also felt he had some congestion in his chest and was worried about infection. Therefore, we now have an antibiotic, some diarrhea medication, and he's been drinking a lot of pedialyte. Today, he was able to keep a little lactose free formula down without throwing it up, so hopefully we're on the upward swing. He is definitely feeling better, which is good to see. I missed my smiley little boy.

What a rotten thing. Rotovirus stinks! Children being sick is one of the hardest parts of parenting. We are praying for you guys. I am so happy for you. Adan is a lucky little boy.
