New experiences

Well, I had my first experience of an earthquake yesterday. Our room shook pretty good, but not so much that anything fell. Luckily, it doesn't sound as if it caused any damage anywhere.

GUATEMALA CITY, Dec 3 (Reuters) - A moderate earthquake struck off the Pacific coast of Guatemala on Sunday and was felt strongly in the Central American country's western highlands, although no damage was immediately reported. The U.S. Geological Survey reported on its Web site that a 5.8 magnitude quake struck at 3:52 p.m. EST (2052 GMT) 60 miles (100 km) south-west of the capital Guatemala City. Eddie Sanchez, director of Guatemalan geological center Insivumeh said there were no reports of damage.

I had been laying on the bed due to being sick with some kind of stomach bug. Daron came in the room with Adan and laid him on the bed. I felt the bed start to shake, but I just assumed Daron was doing it to entertain Adan (and he did seem entertained). But then, Daron says, 'Why is the bed shaking?'. So, I looked around, and sure enough the curtains were swaying back and forth as well. I said, 'I think we may be having an earthquake'. Pretty soon, we could hear people out in the hallways talking to each other wondering if we should go downstairs or what. The whole quake only lasted maybe 5-6 seconds, but it had the people in the baby room buzzing for the rest of the day.

In other new experiences, this parenthood thing is great fun, but definitely a fulltime job! The toughest part is finding time to eat our meals between Adan's meals and nap schedules. We order a lot of room service, since we don't have any kind of kitchenette here. However, we are moving back to Antigua tomorrow, to a place called the Chosen Children's House. It was built by its owners specifically for families who want to foster their children while they wait to bring them home. We will be sharing a living room and kitchen with the other families, but we'll have a bedroom and private bath. We'll be in the smallest unit they have for now, but hope to move to a bigger one when it is available. I hope this works out because I am definitely getting tired of moving. I don't think Adan enjoys it any too much either. If it doesn't though, we didn't cancel our reservations at the Marriott yet, so we can always go back there on the 8th. I definitely like it a lot better than the Westin (where we're at right now). This place is so formal and I don't like the restaurants all that well.

I'll keep you posted on how things work out at the new place.
